Saline Process Witness Training

The Saline course was initially developed for healthcare workers but it has now been adapted to benefit anyone who cares about their church family or community. Carol Rowley (from Texas) who developed this program and Phyllis Ferrier (Yes- she is Pastor Timothy’s mom!) will be the presenters for this 4 week course. They have worked together to prepare this Saline course to teach us how to be caring and compassion workers in the church and community.

When is this course coming to Huntsville? It will be offered each Saturday morning in November, including November 6, 13, 20 and 27. It will run from 9am to 12pm each Saturday morning.

How and Where? Please call the church office (705-789-7122) or Anne Hawes (705-783-1718) to register. It will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in the Goforth Hall. The presenters will connect with us via Zoom.

Saline Process Witness Training developed by IHS Global, equips nurses, healthcare workers and compassionate volunteers to be witnesses for Christ. Participants learn to assess a person’s attitude toward Christ and respond appropriately, applying the ethical principles of permission, sensitivity, and respect. This Biblically-based course is relevant to different cultures, church, community and health care settings and has been taught in many nations throughout the world.

Learning Objectives: At the completion of the course, learners should be able to:

  1. Explain why faith is important in health and pastoral care.
  2. Describe opportunities for and barriers to fulfilling one’s role as a witness.
  3. Demonstrate use of the Engel scale in assessing where a person is on his/her spiritual journey and planning appropriate interventions based on this assessment.
  4. Demonstrate the appropriate use of eight tools that can be used while interacting with patients, families, and colleagues with permission, sensitivity and respect.

Learning Strategies:

Through presentations, discussions, role-plays and demonstrations, participants develop skills in effectively reflecting the light and love of Christ to those with whom they interact.

Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
